Working on Ricketts Glen, Falls Stream

Heads up on "Haven"

Dear Subscriber,

It’s been three years since my last exhibition in Philadelphia – a new one is now on the way again to Gross McCleaf Gallery!

I hope my new works bring you respite from all the disturbing news of late. If so, my choice for the exhibition’s title, Haven, might have been prescient. It is meant to reflect the special place art holds in our lives and reflect the feeling I get from my subjects and from my practice of painting too.

Some paintings in this new collection offer cloudscapes and sweeping vistas. Many are inspired by the enclosure of old-growth forests I have been exploring across the eastern half of the country – those scattered holdouts formed over countless centuries, which were “spared the axe” for a variety of reasons. These forest havens, however rare or small, give me hope that we humans might yet learn to dine without eating the table too.

The new paintings for this exhibition will be posted to my website sometime before the show opens in the next few weeks. If you are signed up to get “notices of new paintings,” you will automatically get an email letting you know when that happens.

It would be wonderful to see you if you can attend the opening reception for Haven at Gross McCleaf Gallery. It’s on Saturday, May 3 from 1-4 pm. The exhibition continues through May 31.

Contact me if you want more info or have questions or comments about anything at all. I’ll tell you up front I have no stock market tips, unfortunately.

Best wishes to you for a good season!

-Thomas
