Dear Subscriber:
It’s your last chance to see my exhibition at Meibohm Fine Arts in East Aurora, New York! Nature as Muse continues through Saturday, July 15. Add it to your itinerary to visit the newly opened world-class Buffalo AKG Museum (formerly Albright Knox Art Gallery). You could put either one at the top of the list, but only one closes soon..
In other news, new reconstruction/reconfiguration at Adirondack Experience, the Museum on Blue Mountain Lake, has resulted in a handsome new high-tech building dedicated to their formidable art collection. I had the pleasure last weekend of attending the grand opening of this permanent installation that included my work, and was very pleased to meet Chief Curator Laura Rice and Executive Director David Kahn and so many other people, including some of the living artists in the collection, the architects, designers and builders of the new facility, and the staff, trustees and supporters that make everything happen at this iconic museum.
I had spent a good amount of time - but never nearly enough! - in the Adirondacks, and a few years ago I was invited to be one of three painters in an exhibition titled Adirondack Art Today at D. Wigmore Fine Art, the outstanding midtown Manhattan gallery, and later was an artist-resident at Blue Mountain Center, not far from the museum. Around then I painted Field Day, Adirondacks, a piece that later came to the attention of curator Laura Rice, and was subsequently acquired for their collection.
I am honored today to have my painting share the walls with works by (among other greats) Rockwell Kent, my old friend Paul Matthews, and my new friend Takeyce Walter (pictured below with me, in front of my painting) in the permanent exhibition Artists & Inspiration in the Wild.
I should probably note that I was in the Adirondacks last week for another reason as well I am beginning work on a new project. But that will be touched on in a newsletter long from now.
For now, I wish you a wonderful season, just beginning. For my North Americans friends receiving this, I hope this means a fire- and smoke-free season.
Thank you for subscribing!
